A tour in Nuwara Eliya will truly be incomplete without a visit to the iconic Victoria Park! Spanning across 25 acres, this majestic park was formally named back in the year 1897, to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.
What to see in the Victoria Park
The park is best visited in the flowering seasons which occur between the months of March and May as well as in August and September. You will be greeted by rich splashes of colour the moment you step into the territories of the park when you time the visit well! There are gorgeous blooms like roses, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas and daisies, opening in the golden sunshine. The simple tree lined pathways are enchanting too! The whole park is carpeted in green and you will feel like you have stepped into a garden in paradise.
Be sure to take your camera with you when you visit Victoria Park as the sights here will take your very breath away. You will get the chance to spot gorgeous Hill Country bird species like Kashmir flycatcher and Indian Pitta here too.
The Victoria Park is quite easy to locate as well. You will find it right next to the famous Nuwara Eliya Post Office. You can walk to the park in less than 10 minutes from the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club and the Central Market of Nuwara Eliya.
At the far end of the park you will find a charming playground as well as a miniature train so if you are travelling with your children, this park should certainly be included in your travel itinerary.
